Research Results About Honey Effect On The Skin

Bruno Bernard from University of Genovo, in his research argue that “Honey is a bee‐derived, supersaturated solution composed mainly of fructose and glucose, and containing proteins and amino acids, vitamins, enzymes, minerals, and other minor components. Historical records of honey skin uses date back to the earliest civilizations, showing that honey has been frequently used as a binder or vehicle, but also for its therapeutic virtues. Antimicrobial properties are pivotal in dermatological applications, owing to enzymatic H 2O 2 release or the presence of active components, like methylglyoxal in manuka, while medical‐grade honey is also available.

Honey is particularly suitable as a dressing for wounds and burns and has also been included in treatments against pityriasis, tinea, seborrhea, dandruff, diaper dermatitis, psoriasis, hemorrhoids, and anal fissure. In cosmetic formulations, it exerts emollient, humectant, soothing, and hair conditioning effects, keeps the skin juvenile and retards wrinkle formation, regulates pH and prevents pathogen infections. Honey‐based cosmetic products include lip ointments, cleansing milks, hydrating creams, after sun, tonic lotions, shampoos, and conditioners.”

According to a research  from Uludag University by Neşe Özmen and Emine Alkın  they say following.  “Honey is a sweet, thick nourishment, as a result of honeybees collecting nectar from the flowers of plants or the sweet substances secreted by varios winged insects and there compositions are changed in there organisms so as to be stocked in the cells of honeycombs in order to become ripe. Developing a number of microorganisms causing illnesses and infections are inhibited with honey.

Laboratory researches have shown that honey is effective against such bacteria as Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella enteria, Ser. Typhimurium which are found in wounds. That some honey naturally has a stopping or slowing effect on the development of microorganisms which are pathological and which deteriorate food has been found in many researches. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct research on the antimicrobial and antioxydent characteristics of honey and the effect of honey when used with various food.”

According to another research from Univeristy of Wakiato by P. C. Molan “Honey has positive effects on the treatment of nearly 500 diseases such as ulcers and other stomach diseases, heart failure, palpitations, bone diseases, cough, allergy, bronchitis, anemia, sore throat, nervous diseases, and some skin and nervous system diseases. It is also known to relieve constipation, cleanse the blood in the body, widen the veins and facilitate blood circulation, strengthen the heart, facilitate fat digestion, heal wounds and burns. ”
