Cultural Linguistic Exchanges and Increase of the Knowledge learned in a Foreign Language

The internet is a very cool, faster and more powerful way to learn a foreign language. It is also available to many more people nowadays who know how to use it as a part of their daily lives. This means that the tools used when learning a language, have considerably improved a lot with the pass of time.

Cultural Linguistic Exchanges are the ones where a lot of people have the chance and opportunity to work with each other building their personal skills within a foreign language. In order to have any linguistic exchange with someone from another country, it is truly important to manage a general language in mind between conversations)

Learning through the internet means you can have a lot of fun and globally meet different people from different countries.

Sometimes there exist some groups online on platforms like Discord where we can find language partners, people seeking for support in aspects like speaking skills, listening skills and reading skills learning a foreign language.

Connecting can just happen on the internet with a short time of interaction, on a natural, ephemeral or superficial way.

Talking about languages means knowing how they work and how students learn them.

When connecting with different native speakers of a language we would like to learn, we absolutely know that, it may become a great experience to us, in order to achieve notable improvements, such as:

  • Becoming better in any language where we put long and valuable time over anything else.
  • Breaking the ice of being scared to talk in public or to start a conversation

Also getting to interact with people from all over the world, means that, besides of this being an exciting experience, it can also be a difficult thing to achieve; especially when people don't like talking to strangers or they consider that they shouldn't be talking to someone they have never met in real life.

Any language can be a total challenge for many people

"Language barriers" are totally known as cross-border connections between people learning a foreign language. Sometimes there may be people speaking the same language and they can't really improve notoriously what they would like to improve.

Currently, there may be some existing problems on the internet related with connecting our thoughts, ideas and conversations to strangers or different people all around the world.

Because of this, we have to know how to use different useful tools as online translators in order to help us with anything we need; a word, a sentence or a meaning.

An important thing to take into account is that, being willing to learn a foreign language means you can break any language barrier without any problem.

Even thought the use of some online translators is quite not recommended, there are still some other points in favor for online translators such as:

  • Online translators can help us accurately for the meaning of a word we probably had never head of.
  • Online translators can absolutely translate part of our ideas or half of our ideas to communicate in a foreign language with different native speakers.
  • When using an online translator, it is merely important to know that some words, meanings and phrases are not 100% reliable, so we must research a little bit more before saying anything or communicating something really important.

The importance of interaction when learning a language means putting in effort, dedication and perseverance

Interacting with people in another foreign language can be a very comfortable experience and at the same time a little uncomfortable depending on the situation, experience and context.

There are people willing to help us at all times but there are many others who can make bad jokes to people who really want to learn and have a learning purpose.

Language Barriers - Kris Interviewed by Emmanuel Barrera
This podcast is a discussion of overcoming language barriers and how amazing it is to embark upon the world at a young age.

Therefore, on the internet, it is no secret that everyone can encounter a "troll", who for some reason or another feels the need to have a little fun by making anyone feel bad or making fun of  someone's weaknesses in a foreign language language, like the:

  • Accent
  • Pronunciation
  • Grammar

Although many people feel comfortable establishing and creating new connections with foreign speakers over the Internet; some connections can be lost if there is no trust or consistency on the part of the other person, as well as interest, and if interest is affected, the connection and interaction will probably be lost over time.

Internet conversations that carry a purpose or benefit for foreign language learners

Many conversations can be affected when many of the people within a linguistic exchange group have no topics of conversation to bring up in order to maintain any kind of active conversation, which means that without any points of view, topics of conversation and new ways of interacting, the connection, as well as the interaction with people from other parts of the world can be affected and largely closed off by the members of a cultural language exchange themselves.

A language exchange experience can be a satisfactory and growing experience to any language learner as it helps with listening, writing and speaking skills.

To find topics of conversation and topics to bring up in a conversation, it is important to know different ways to talk to people; basic stuff like:

  • What do you like to do in your free time?
  • What are some of your favorite horror movies?
  • What do you like to do with your friends?
  • What languages do you like the most?
  • Where would you go if you had the opportunity to go to Asia?
  • What is your favorite place to relax?
  • What are your favorite animals?
  • What's your favorite pop song?
  • What are some of your hobbies?
  • How did you learn a second foreign language?
  • Do you like to go camping?

There must always exist kindness in any linguistic exchange, as well as respect, which is hugely important in any space.
