The 5th generation of mobile phone internet is abbreviated as 5G where much faster internet data can be downloaded and uploaded and its service will be wide. As smartphone technology has evolved, consumers have seen the rise of data technology over the past few years. It started with the 3G network, then developed to 4G LTE and now it’s turned into a 5G super faster network system. Though it’s a little far away from us but we should learn about 5G technology. So, we can decide if the features are right for us.

5th Generation technology offers a wide range of features that are useful for all groups of students, professionals, and even the general public. 5G technology will change our communication system and it will become easier to communicate with people and it will create a revelation in modern science and technology.

Though 5G technology is a blessing for us but it has some disadvantages which we need to know. Today you will know from this article about the advantages and disadvantages of 5G technology. Let’s discuss it.

Advantages of 5G Network:

Speed: The main advantage of the 5G network is a greater speed in transmissions. The transmission speed for the 5G network can go up to 15 to 20 Gbps. We will be able to enjoy a higher speed network that can access files, programs, and remote applications completely without waiting or within a couple of seconds.

Sometimes, we don’t get proper network connections in crowded places like bus stands, airports, sports stadiums, etc. and 5G technology will solve this problem and you don’t need to worry about network buffering.

Lower Latency: Latency is the time for the signal to go from the source to the destination and back to the source. The latency for the 5G network is ten times less than 4G and it can enable remote operation in real-time. If the network has high latency, it can be inefficient for some users. Online gamers can’t play games properly if the network has high latency.

Lower latency is important to fill the IoT, which is expected to help heavy industry and big data enterprises expand, innovate and scale their operations globally. The low latency of Verizon's 5G ultra-wideband network can create huge technological innovations. For example, it is possible to make data in 3D imagery, holograms, virtual reality, and augmented reality and it is also beneficial for public safety and security.

5G latency is one of the most important issues in the new generation of cellular technology.

Less Tower Obstruction: Our current 4th generation network is problematic for us sometimes because when numerous people slope on a small area, towers get jammed and capacity is affected. But, the 5G network will not be problematic. Numerous people could use the same tower without any kind of buffering and towers don’t get jammed and we will get the uninterrupted connection.

New technology options may be become available on 5G network:

Preliminary research and reports on 5G technology indicate that smart devices operating on 5G networks can run thousands of times faster than 5G networks. In the past, which works we did by desktop or laptop or computer, we can do now by smart devices.

As the number of devices that can be connected to the network with 5G will increase a lot and it will go to a millionaire scale per square kilometer. The work is being transferred from the world of the computer to the world of smart devices, as the network speed increases, it will create a new door for the technology of the smart device that was not available before.

For example, if we place sensors in different points and objects in a city, we can be monitored a large part of the city. Then if we share the information of the sensors of the cars and those of the city and also exchange data, we can improve the quality of life of the cities.

Disadvantages of 5G Network:

Less coverage: One of the major advantages of 3G cell towers is that they can cover a large area with relatively few cells. This is because the network did not need that much bandwidth which means networks had to deploy fewer cells.

When the 4G technology developed, the cells were producing more bandwidth and the coverage radius of each cell was smaller. For this reason, we noticed that the coverage of the 4G network is lower than the 3G network.

This trend will continue once 5G network technology is developed, it will produce super-fast bandwidth but the coverage radius of each cell will be smaller. More cell towers will be needed because they can’t cover much more area like 3G or 4G network.

The Radio Frequency may become an Issue:

Every cell tower, radius, and even satellites are using radio frequencies to communicate. The frequency measured in HZ and the radio frequency operates in the GHz range. The 5G network will transmit data in the range of about 6 GHz. It can be harmful to us that numerous types of signal operating in the range of 6 GHz.

Several countries are protesting against the 5G network because of its harmful effect. It can have the effect on humans, animals, and plants. They (protestors) point to the potential danger of radiofrequency radiation emitted from antennas placed near humans. [5]

Cost: The cost of the 5G development infrastructure will be high. This amount will be further increased with the ongoing maintenance costs required to ensure faster connection and for this reason, customers have to carry these big price tags. But the developers are trying how to decrease these high prices.

Battery Drain on Device:

In the case of cellular devices connected to the 5G network, batteries may not be able to operate for significant periods of time. The battery technology needs to be advanced for this extended connection, where a single charge may last for the whole day.

In addition to depleted batteries, users have reported that cell phones are getting warmer while operating on 5G.

Upload Speeds:

The download speeds of the 5G technology are incredibly high and up to 1.9 Gbps in some cases. But the upload speeds of 5G technology are lower and up to 100 Mbps, which is not unbelievable as initially stated.

In case of existing mobile connections, however, the upload speed is higher than 4G LTE.

Though there are disadvantages of the 5G network technology but it will be blessing for us. It will create a new dimension in the communication system.

Limitation of Rural Access:

Mainly the 5G technology will be established in the urban area (especially in big cities) but the people of the rural area will not get connection easily.

Their main focus to give the connection in the big cities in the world where have a large population. At last, they will give the connection in the rural area. As a result, only some of the population will be benefited from 5G technology.
