A Young Engineer and His Vision
Rakibul Islam wants to establish his own construction company in Bangladesh. He wants to study abroad for his higher study.
I aspire to establish a world-class construction company in Bangladesh, having gained a solid academic foundation and valuable research experience during my graduate studies at any of the world-class university. The world’s iconic projects utilized advanced technologies such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), 3D printing, prefabricated construction, smart materials, high-performance concrete, etc. A few notable proven examples of modern structures include the USA's One World Trade Center, Turkey’s Camlica and CBRT towers, the UAE’s Burj Khalifa, and Malaysia’s Merdeka 118. All the projects used smart construction methods with high-quality risk assessment. Following this, the few upcoming projects, such as NEOM (Saudi Arabia), Nusantara New Capital (Indonesia), and Gulf Railway, are also using modern technology-based construction methods, assessing the risk factor carefully. The demand for learning advanced technology-based construction management as an engineer is growing day by day all over the world.
With the growth of the population, Bangladesh is experiencing rapid urbanization and infrastructure growth. However, the construction industry has not advanced at the same pace as global standards. The sector faces challenges from outdated construction practices, limited digital technology use, weak quality control, and insufficient emphasis on sustainability. Continuous incidents such as the Rana Plaza collapse in 2013, the FR Tower fire in 2019, and the recent earthquake in 2025 took thousands of people's lives and injured lots of people in Bangladesh, which proves the inaccuracies in this field. To build the recent mega-projects, Bangladesh is hiring foreign expertise and companies. Metro rail projects are constructed by Japanese companies, and the Padma Bridge is built by Chinese companies. Despite having the talent, these incidents and dependency on foreign experts will only be sorted out when these talents will be world class. Motivated by this reality, I want to be a world-class engineer to sort out the issues.
I completed my bachelor's degree in civil engineering at Gopalganj Science and Technology University in Gopalganj-8100, Bangladesh. My passion for civil engineering grew as I immersed myself in research and coursework. I became particularly interested in groundwater depletion, environmental pollution, and the construction methods and materials used. My undergraduate thesis focused on "Groundwater Potentiality for Construction in Gopalganj District," a pressing issue that affects thousands of lives in my country. Through extensive data analysis and field visits, I gained invaluable insights into sustainable construction. My dedication led me to co-author a journal article, which is currently under review. After graduation, I joined a construction company, "Third Vision Limited," as a project coordinator. While working there, I have gained hands-on experience as an engineer and monitored several construction and interior projects across the country. I got frightened seeing the working procedure of the workers in my construction projects. They work, keeping their lives at hand. I experienced the gap between world-class construction methods and Bangladesh’s methods practically, which has enhanced my interest in learning advanced technology-based construction methods.
Beyond academics, my leadership and extracurricular activities shaped my personality and skills. I was a founding member of the GSTU Science Club and served as its president in 2023. Through this platform, I organized seminars, workshops, and awareness programs on environmental sustainability, climate change, and scientific advancements. I worked as the vice president for a social club called “Prothom Alo Bondhusova." To enhance the educational experience for students in our department, we established a club called "CESPA," focusing on improving the quality of education for civil engineering students. Additionally, working as a university correspondent for a national newspaper allowed me to raise awareness about different issues through journalism. These experiences honed my communication skills and reinforced my commitment to bringing positive change to society.
My academic background, extracurricular activities, and work experience prepared me for the Master of Science program. My foundation will help me to learn different advanced courses during the study period. I believe that the program offers an exceptional environment for advanced and technology-based education. The program Construction Engineering and Management is exactly what I am looking for, and there are resources and experts at the university for the best education.
World Class University's prestigious scholarship in the world, offering financial support along with the offerings of a cultural blend that are completely unique. For a person who aims for higher education like me, it’s a great opportunity to study at a world-class university, where I will be able to concentrate on my academics and research and fulfill the wish to be a modern engineer who wishes to change being an entrepreneur.
Let's hope for the best. Waiting for my turn to come.

Rakibul Islam, Bangladesh
